  • It comes as his lawyer claims he needs Adderall and depression skin patches
  • Bankman-Fried is currently being held up in Brooklyn’s notorious MDC prison

Sam Bankman-Fried used stolen customer funds to make over $100million in campaign contributions ahead of the 2022 midterms, prosecutors have claimed.

The new indictment, filed Monday, charges the 31-year-old with seven counts of conspiracy and fraud over the collapse of the exchange.

He has previously pleaded not guilty. Mark Botnick, a spokesman for Bankman-Fried, declined to comment.

It comes as his lawyer claims Bankman-Fried needs access to medications to treat depression and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) while in jail.

Bankman-Fried rode a boom in cryptocurrency values to compile a net worth of $26billion, and became an influential donor to mostly Democratic candidates.

The US Attorney’s office in Manhattan had initially charged him with violating US campaign finance laws, but dropped that charge in late July after the Bahamas said it had never intended to extradite Bankman-Fried to the US on that charge.

FTX was based in the Bahamas and he was arrested there in December 2022.

In a letter last week to US District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan, prosecutors indicated they would soon file a new indictment that ‘will make clear that MrBankman-Fried remains charged with conducting an illegal campaign finance scheme as part of the fraud and money laundering schemes originally charged.’

Meanwhile Bankman-Fried’s lawyers asked US District Judge Lewis Kaplan to order the MDC in Brooklyn to ensure their client has a daily Emsam skin patch for depression and three or four doses a day of Adderall for ADHD.

He has been prescribed those medications for five and three years, respectively, they said.

‘Without these medications, Mr. Bankman-Fried will experience a return of his depression and ADHD symptoms, which will severely impact his ability to assist in his own defense,’ his lawyers wrote, citing a letter from his psychiatrist filed in court.

Kaplan on Friday remanded Bankman-Fried to the MDC after finding probable cause to believe he had tampered with witnesses at least twice.

Bankman-Fried was only able to bring enough of the medicines to last a few days, his lawyers wrote.

Bankman-Fried has pleaded not guilty to charges he stole billions of dollars in FTX funds to plug losses at his Alameda Research hedge fund.

Until Friday, he had been largely confined to his parents’ Palo Alto, California, home on $250 million bond since his December extradition from the Bahamas, where FTX was based.

After he was brought to a Bahamas courtroom for an initial appearance following his arrest at the luxurious Albany resort where he lived, Bankman-Fried briefly left at the start of the proceedings to change his Emsam patch, a medical strip applied to the skin to treat depression in adults.

Inside the HORRIFIC conditions at MDC Brooklyn where disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried is being held during his trial – and which also held R Kelly, Ghislaine Maxwell and Martin Shkreli

Inmates inside the prison where disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried is to be held during his trial have previously been stuck in freezing cells with limited power for a week.

The Metropolitan Detention Center houses more than 1,600 inmates and is situated near the waterfront in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

As well as new inmate Bankman-Fried, the prison had previously held high profile individuals including R. KellyGhislaine Maxwell and Martin Shkreli.

Other inmates have been linked to high-profile drug trafficking and terrorism cases, while others are comparatively anonymous New Yorkers awaiting trial.

In 2019, the prison made headlines after inmates suffered days without heat or power during a cold snap.

In February 2019, a fire cut off power and heat to parts of the jail and inmates had to suffer in near freezing temperatures and in darkness after the sun went down.

Inmates inside the jail at the time included Nxivm sex-cult leader Keith Raniere and accused jewelry thief mastermind Damir Pejcinovic, as well as MS-13 gang members and mafiosos.

At the time, Deirdre von Dornum, who oversees the Federal Defenders’ Brooklyn team said that inmates had wrapped themselves ‘head to toe in towels and blankets’.

The crisis came to a head with protesters rallying outside the facility, where inmates banged on the walls of the jail and flashed nightlights in a plea for help.

Its latest inmate, disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was sent to the prison on Friday after having his $250million bail revoked.

Bankman-Fried’s lawyers earlier insisted he shouldn’t be jailed and argued that he was trying to protect his reputation.

He is facing a slew of criminal charges related to the collapse of his cryptocurrency exchange FTX in November.

He allegedly misused billions of dollars from investors on lavish gifts and political donations, before losing shareholders their fortunes.

Previous inmate R Kelly had his lawyers sued the prison after he claimed they placed him on suicide watch as a punishment.

In July of 2022 after he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking and abusing young girls, his attorney said officers had violated his rights.

Jennifer Bonjean said Kelly had been in ‘fine form’ after being held at the prison but she believed he had been put on suicide watch for ‘punitive reasons’.

Former warden at the Jail Cameron Lindsay previously told the New York Times: ‘The M.D.C. was one of the most troubled, if not the most troubled facility in the Bureau of Prisons.’

Ghislaine Maxwell had been held at the facility in 2021 and while behind bars her lawyers complained she was underfed, losing her hair, given meals with plastic melted into the food, having to drink contaminated water and could smell overflowing toilets.

In a letter seen by Insider, her attorney Bobbi C. Sternheim wrote: ‘Cockroaches and rodents are plentiful and glue tracks have been placed in Ms. Maxwell’s day area to help remediate the problem.’

Maxwell has since been moved to a facility in Tallahassee, Florida, after being sentenced in June of last year.

The Insider also reported that lawyers are often left waiting for hours to see their clients who are inside the jail.

After boasting that he would spend less than a year in a ‘Club Fed’ prison, authorities had Martin Shkreli held at MDC while he awaited trial.

Shkreli, former owner of Vyera Pharmaceuticals, was sentenced in 2018 for lying to investors about two hedge funds he ran and overdrew the money he was owed.

His lawyer said at the time: ‘It’s not a rehabilitative facility. There’s no schooling there, there’s no classes there.

‘The worst part is there’s no real outdoors space. It’s just a place to warehouse human beings.’

A June 2016 report by the National Association of Women Judges that found conditions in the female wing were ‘unconscionable.’

The report said: ‘The absence of fresh, clean air, the complete absence of sunlight, and the absence of ANY outdoor time and activities are immediate issues which BOP has failed to address in any meaningful fashion.’

Planned 2020 FBI interview with Hunter Biden about his tax crimes never happened because Biden transition team and Secret Service were tipped off and canned it, ex-agent claims

FBI interview with Hunter Biden about his tax crimes never happened after Biden transition

The agent, who worked for the FBI for more than two decades and retired from the bureau last year, sat for an interview with the Oversight Committee last month. Top Oversight Democrat Jamie Raskin had been demanding Chairman James Comer release the FBI agent’s transcript, accusing the Republican of hiding testimony that ‘undercut’ IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler’s claims. Years into the Hunter Biden investigation, which began in 2018, the FBI decided to interview their target. The interview was to occur on December 8, 2020 – weeks after the presidential election. The FBI agent said he understood that Secret Service needed to be notified for safety reasons but said he intended to notify them at 8 a.m. the morning of the interview of their ‘intent’ to speak with Hunter. But the evening before, the FBI agent learned both Secret Service and the Biden transition team had already been notified. ‘This essentially tipped off a group of people very close to President Biden and Hunter Biden and gave this group an opportunity to obstruct the approach of the witness.’
